perfection

It's this standard. The standard of ideal perfection. A state of respect and a goal that everyone strives for. Well, maybe not everyone. Maybe those people that don't believe in perfection are smart...somewhat. Because perfection, this standard, is an impossible pedestal. We're never going to reach it, no matter how hard we try and how hard we strive, there's always someone who sees your flaws, but maybe it's just you.

To me, it's smart, talented, maintaining good grades and a busy schedule, while still managing to be a nice person and keep myself together. Not to mention looking nice and having a good reputation.

And I fail at that standard daily, beating myself up over it again and again.

Actually, my ballet teacher was talking to us the other night about the perfection standard. How she hears all of the young people use the word "perfect" as if it's a real thing. Because it is to us. But Ms. Betty was talking about how there is no such thing as perfection, we're always striving to be better than we are today. Clearly, she meant it directed toward ballet dancing, but I think it could apply to anyone, in anything. It fits this whole idealistic view of how we should be, and in all reality, it's just some imaginary and unreachable goal.

Maybe Ms. Betty was right, maybe there isn't a standard for perfection, just a constant effort to push ourselves to be better all the time. And to be completely honest, that's a lot healthier than striving to be perfect all the time.
